The humble chocolate-covered pretzel takes a gourmet twist thanks to the sister duo behind DUMBO-based Fatty Sundays & Co. You may recognize their distinctive pretzels already. Co-founders Ali and Lauren held a pop-up shop at the Union Square Holiday Market last year after raising $10,000 on Kickstarter.Gone is the classic pretzel knot in favor of a hefty 4-inch pretzel rod. And in lieu of a plain chocolate coating, each pretzel is dusted with a delicious (and sometimes oh-so-colorful) extra. Toppings run the flavor spectrum from savory crushed spicy almonds to sweet peppermint candy.
But their signature hand-dipped rod has to be the rainbow sprinkle-covered pretzel. Based on their mother’s original recipe, this brightly-hued combo started their salty-sweet business. In a playful tribute, the duo took their origins one step further with a Sprinkle of the Month club. This month’s lineup? Festive red-yellow-and-brown GobbleGobble and white-and-blue Gelty Pleasure pretzels.
