Never one to rest on his laurels, Shamus Jones, Brooklyn Brine's purveyor of pickles, recently opened a new on-site café, Brine & Dine, featuring an innovative vegan menu comprised of delicious sandwiches, including a savory veggie reuben, a vegan banh mi, and a world-class veggie burger, paired with fried pickles, an array of seasonal ferments (only available here) and housemade kombucha. Annnd 2 words: unlimited condiments.
For an indulgent, yet virtuous, meal you can't go wrong with any of their menu offerings. We wolfed down a veggie burger, adorned with griddled onions, juicy ripe tomato, crisp lettuce, and Vegan Secret Sauce. It was our platonic ideal of this vegan standby: a thick, lightly crisp patty, tinted red with beets, and richly flavored with a secret spice blend.
The view of the pickle factory through the café's picture window offers a fascinating glimpse into the sights (and smells) of Shamus' labor of love. You'll see a bunch of happy pickle-makers hard at work. Brooklyn Brine prides themselves on offering fair wages and great working conditions.
So head on over to Industry City to say hey to Shamus and his crew, sample a flight of ferments, and get your fried pickle fix while you're at it.
