Founded by graphic designer Elizabeth Valleau and chef Sam Mason, Empire Mayonnaise disrupted the condiment world with their small batch spreads in exotic flavors from smoked paprika to white truffle.
When the duo opened an artisan mayonnaise store in Prospect Heights, they were the subject of a Saturday Night Live skit about Brooklyn gentrification. A laudatory piece in The Wall Street Journal covered Empire Mayonnaise’s remarkable success. This Brooklyn-branded mayo can be found in over 70 retailers, including Whole Foods and Dean & Deluca.
Both Elizabeth and Sam have a sense of humor when it comes to their critics, and the pair isn’t afraid to poke fun at themselves. “We’re like a Portlandia skit,” Elizabeth said.
