Candy, Caramel, Liddabit Sweets, Sweet -

Artisan: Liddabit Sweets

With its commitment to fresh and seasonal ingredients, Liddabit Sweets of Sunset Park is satisfying Brooklyn’s candy craving, without the guilt.

Although they hail from different backgrounds, Liddabit’s founders, Liz Gutman and Jen King, found themselves enrolled in New York City’s French Culinary Institute, where they became fast friends. United by their passion for sustainable ingredients and love of sweets, the two founded their own candy shop in 2009. Like many artisanal Brooklyn vendors, Liddabit got its start at the Brooklyn Flea.

Liddabit’s varied inventory of treats includes caramels, honeycomb, lollipops, popcorn, and candy bars, which come in novel flavors like “The King”— soft peanut butter nougat sandwiched between a brown sugar brown butter cookie, with a layer of fresh banana ganache, all dipped in milk chocolate (commence drooling). Thanks to partnerships with local producers around the New York and the Tri-State Area, Ronnybrook fairy, Tremblay Apiaries Honey, and Brooklyn Brewery, to name a few, the candy shop can guarantees all its products are made from the highest quality, freshest ingredients. Additionally, Liddabit Sweets creates and packages their products by hand.

Liz and Jen have also compiled their candymaking wisdom into a cookbook, The Liddabit Sweets Candy Cookbook. The pair’s recipe for “The Last-Minute Chocolate Hazelnut Squares” caught the eye of Oprah magazine.
